Peaceful Warrior began with a vision: to empower youth through the discipline and strategy of chess. Founded by educator and leader Daniel McDermott, Ed.D., the foundation brings together mentorship, education, and community engagement to provide children with tools for lifelong success. Through tournaments, school programs, and dedicated coaching, Peaceful Warrior helps kids build confidence, patience, and purpose—one move at a time.

Founder & Executive Director
With over fifty years of leadership in education and youth development, Daniel McDermott, Ed.D. created the Peaceful World Chess Foundation to blend cognitive growth with character development.
His mentorship has impacted thousands of children and helped shape a nationwide chess community rooted in purpose, discipline, and opportunity.
In addition to his work with the foundation, Dr. McDermott has shared his reflections on education, mentorship, and personal growth in his book, We Are Starving. The book offers a thoughtful look at what it means to truly support and nourish the potential within every child.
He continues to lead the foundation with a commitment to strategic thinking, compassion, and lifelong learning.
